Heilige Rock Tage Trier 1933
1933 Holy Tunic souvenir from Trier
This big 4-7/8 inch silver plated pewter wall medallion dates from a very unusual occasion in the early days of the Third Reich. The most famous relic in the cathedral or Dom of the city of Trier is the Heilige Rock or Holy Tunic said to have been worn by Jesus at the time of his crucifixion. There is lots of information about it online in both English and German and the Rock or tunic as it is called in English is mentioned in the Book of John 19:23-24.
In any event, the Holy Tunic is rarely seen and has only been displayed at a dozen or so occasions since the Middle Ages, and it was displayed only once during the Third Reich - in 1933. The robe was again displayed in 1959 and the German post office or Deutsche Bundespost actually issued a special postage stamp to commemorate the event.

There is a 10-day celebration in Trier each year called Heilige Rock Tage (Holy Tunic Days) but the robe is not on display. For further information see wikipedia under the heading "Seamless Robe of Jesus".

An authentic rarely encountered Third Reich piece in very good condition.
