COLLECTOR CARD BOOK
OF THE 1936
OLYMPIC GAMES

This is a very good example of the rare 11-3/8 x 13 inch 45 page very, very heavily illustrated full-color soft cover book Die XI. Olympiade Berlin 1936 as published by Heinrich Franck Söhne GmbH in Berlin.

The book consists of a binder with pages die-cut to accept full-color pictures measuring 2-3/4 x 4-1/8 inches. Those pictures cover every aspect of the Olympic Games from Olympic medals and bells through the organizers, celebrities and the athletes themselves. The best part is that the big clear pictures are in full-color. Naturally, they cover events like riding, shooting, rowing, boxing, swimming, sailing, wrestling, skiing, hockey, skating, bobsledding, and of course track and field.

American negro athletes like Jesse Owens, Archie Williams, J. Woodruff and Cornelius Johnson are given every bit as prominent a spot in this book as any of the Nazi athletes such as Lutz Long, Hans Wöllke and Hans Scheele. These were the amazing days when amateur athletes swore by the Olympic Oath and countries like Great Britain fielded the champion ice hockey team!

In addition to the 180 or so color photos inserted in the pages, there is an overview of the 1936 Olympic Games in Berlin and Garmisch-Partenkirchen, an introduction to German Chancellor Adolf Hitler and a recap of the medals by country and the winners of the individual events.

It is extremely unusual to find this Franck book with all of its tipped-in photos. Very good used condition.
