This is a splendid rare example of the 9 x 12 inch, 16 page, very, very heavily illustrated Hertie children’s Christmas toy catalog for 1938. The old German department store firm of Hertie had only recently been aryanized when this catalog was published for the stores in Berlin, Germany.
Items in the catalog range from tiny children’s steel helmets, trucks, search lights, tanks, flak guns and wind-up Nazi staff cars to rocking horses, peddle cars, musical instruments, baby buggies, model trains, Schuco cars, morse code machines, steam engines, movie projectors, marching soldiers, stuffed toys, tool sets, a children’s post office, dolls, sewing machines and play tableware.
Few catalogs of this type survived the last 70 years to provide a rare glimpse inside of the children’s world in the Third Reich. This Hertie Christmas toy catalog for 1938 is in very good condition.
