This is a very nice, rare original set of 4-1/8 x 5-7/8 inch full-color postcards in a holder called:
München 1945/46
12 Kunstkarten nach
Aquarellen von Gebhard Reitz
Beschreibung von
Hermann Roth
(Munich 1945/46, 12 Art Postcards from Watercolors by Gebhard Reitz and with Commentary by Hermann Roth).
The twelve cards and their accompanying 16 page bi-lingual (German and English) booklet were authorized for publication by 6870 DISCC. US ARMY/AUTHORIZATION NUMBER 8566.
Shown on these cards are famous Munich sights destroyed in war, such as the old City Hall (Rathaus), Michael’s Church, Marienplatz, New Pinakothek, the State Opera, Peter’s Church, Church of our Lady (Frauenkirche), Odeonplatz with the Feldherrnhalle and US Military Police Headquarters, Bavaria Statue, Promenadeplatz, the Residence, and the Courtyard of the Mint.
Munich was tremendously destroyed by the war and a great deal of effort went into rebuilding the city quickly. These rare cards show a glimpse of the interval of destruction at the end of World War II better than anything we have ever seen. The set and its folder are in nice used condition.
There is a large selection of other German postcards on USMBOOKS.
