Of the many Wehrmacht and Waffen-SS manuals produced for the 98k Mauser rifle and its derivatives during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler, we think the 4th Edition of the Oberst Schmitt manual dated 1940 is the very best.

German military rifle cleaning
The 6-1/2 x 8 inch, 34 page, heavily illustrated softcover manual was made as a special printing from the ,,Waffentechnisches Unterrichtsbuch’’ (Technical Weapons Instruction Book) by Oberst Schmitt and published by Verlag R. Eisenschmidt of Berlin in 1940.

The manual starts with a two-page index and then goes on to explain and show the differences in the principal models of the model 98 rifle. There is then a review of the action and operation of the rifle followed by take-down and cleaning sections. The standard German military rifle cleaning kit is fully depicted and explained in detail.
Ammunition
A large 8 x 16-3/4 inch fold-out has cutaway drawings of every part of the weapon including the leather sling, and there is a two-page spread showing various types of 8mm ammunition.

There is a water stain to several pages, otherwise the manual is complete and in good condition.
