This is a nice example of the rare and hard-to-find golden-brown BdM Weste or uniform jacket as worn by the Mädel (young women) of the Bund deutscher Mädel (BdM or League of German Girls) of the Hitler Youth during the Third Reich in Germany. It is the same jacket as shown being worn by the BdM woman on the left in the picture above from the Organisationsbuch der NSDAP.
This short, lined, velvety brown four-pocket jacket is in the original condition in which it was put away in an attic in Germany at the end of World War II. It has not been laundered or dry cleaned but should be. It was no doubt used during World War II when BdM girls were drafted en masse into the nursing profession. That is to say, it was worn on a day-to-day basis in the field and has not been laundered.
The fabric shows some light wear on the inside where the lining touched the hips of the wearer and about 1 inch of the seam under the right arm needs to be restiched. A portion of the sleeve lining of both sleeves needs to be resewed to the jacket lining. The button at the cuff of the left sleeve is missing. The condition is really quite nice. The soiling mentioned is more of a patina, as if the jacket has been wiped with a hand covered with graphite from a lead pencil. It is not dirty or oily and does not have a foul smell of any kind. It should dry clean nicely.
The tan lining of the jacket is in good condition, except as noted above, and it has one interior pocket on the right hand side. On the left inside of the jacket is the original Reichszeugmeisterei der NSDAP (RZM) Hersteller or manufacturer label.
The jacket has a two-piece Edelweiss sewed to the right lapel, an embroidered black and white Hitlerjugend Südost Oberdonau (South East Upper Danube) triangle above a standard 3-3/4 inch embroidered red, white and black Hitler Youth diamond on the left sleeve.
All the original buttons and buckles are there, except the button on the left cuff, which is missing.
The measurement of the jacket are as follows:
across the shoulders 15 inches, from the bottom of the collar to the bottom of the back 18 inches, from the shoulder to the cuff 21-1/2 inches, the waist is 34 inches.
Other than needing a cleaning and a small amount of the resewing mentioned above, this original Third Reich BdM jacket is in good condition.
