The Office of Schönheit der Arbeit of the DAF decided what constituted kitsch (trash) in Hitler’s Germany and what constituted good industrial design. This simple but elegant style was considered to be the classic form by the DAF, and firms that produced it were allowed to use the MODELL DES AMTES SCHÖNHEIT DER ARBEIT cogged wheel and swastika logo as a seal of approval.

The essential form was almost always the same and the color was almost always entirely white. The double blue, grey or burgundy lines found on some pieces denote the upscale version of the pure white basic design.

The lidded bowl we offer here is white tableware of the MODELL DES AMTES SCHÖNHEIT DER ARBEIT (based on the Model from the Office of Beauty of Labor of the Deutsche Arbeitsfront or German Labor Front) as produced by Thun. The company is still in business today using the same name.

The diameter of the bowl is 4.75 inches and the height is 2-1/8 inches. The lid has opening to fit a spoon.

The condition of this 63+ year old Nazi Beauty of Labor bowl and lid is very good. There are no cracks or hairlines in either the bowl or lid. The bottom of the bowl is somewhat uneven as a result of use. There is yellow residue on the rim of the bowl and the bottom of the lid. This is not visibile when the lid is on the bowl.
