The very rare original Nazi Hitler Youth filmstrip offered here was actually used as instruction material in Germany during the Third Reich (Bildband für die Schulung in der Hitler-Jugend). The 40 frame filmstrip is packaged in its original Hitler-Jugend film canister bearing the diamond-shaped emblem of the Hitler Youth on the top and the title Erbkranker Nachwuchs or Inherited Illness. It was published by the Amt für weltanschauliche Schulung or Educational Department of the Reichsjugendführung in Berlin. This filmstrip was published in cooperation with the Rassenpolitisches Hauptamt of the NSDAP.

The film Erbkranker Nachwuchs deals with the extremely controversial subject of the treatment of humans who have genetic disorders or inherited illnesses. In the Third Reich that category included the mentally handicapped, the insane, idiots, criminals, suicidals, asocial and raving mad people, among others. The focus of the filmstrip is very much on the cost to German society of allowing such people to reproduce.

Projections showed that society would not be able to continue to afford to care for such people if they were not sterilized. The film very carefully addresses those cost not only in terms of care, but also in terms of the cost of facilities, such as prisons, insane asylums, hospitals, guards, medical personnel, etc.

In photos and charts the filmstrip explains the process by which people in the above mentioned categories were taken before the Erbgesundheitsgericht or a "Genetics Court" which either found them competent or incompetent. If found incompetent by the court, they were subjected to Unfruchtbarmachung or sterilization with the objective of bringing their genetic line to an end. There are quotes from Adolf Hitler on the subject.

Quite naturally, because of the controversial subject matter of this filmstrip, examples were sought out by Allied de-Nazification personnel in Germany at the end of World War II, and destroyed.

This rare 40 cell filmstrip was made to be projected in a standard German projector where the film travels side-to-side rather than up and down. Since almost nobody owns a filmstrip projector of any type today, the very best historical use of this filmstrip is either to scan it or photograph it and burn it on a CD so that it can be viewed on a computer monitor or a regular TV.

Original Nazi era HJ educational material of the most controversial sort, in excellent condition. We doubt that it was ever projected until we photographed parts of it for this USMBOOKS web page.
