This is a pristine example of the rare Hitler Youth Gau Franken publication Führerdienst der Fränkischen Hitler-Jugend (Leadership of the Franconian Hitler Youth) published by NSDAP Gebietsführung Franken and Oberbannführer Alfred Raschke as guidance for Hitler Youth Leadership. Printed in Nürnberg, this is the 5-3/4-4 x 8-1/4 inch, 32-page February 1939 edition which had a print run of only 1735.

The foreword is by Obergebietsführer Helmut Stellrecht, the man responsible for the political education of the Hitler Youth all over Nazi Germany. Stellrecht was a World War I veteran, early member of the Nazi Party and author (often using the pseudonym Hermann Noelle), and one of the leading members of Amt Rosenberg. The title of the foreword on page 1 is “Guiding Principle” and is about courage, discipline, and silent obedience.

This very original 82 year old example of Führerdienst der Fränkischen Hitler-Jugend is in very good condition. It looks like it was never read and has no writing or unpleasant odor. We have never seen another one of the original 1735 examples offered for sale! Rare original Third Reich ephemera!

Page 2 has important Nazi dates in the month of February, including the birthday of the extreme anti-Semitic Frankenführer Julius Streicher on 12 February and the official founding of the NSDAP on 24 February 1920.

Hitler Youth Leader Baldur von Schirach’s chapter to the HJ follows. He stresses the importance of sport, and not indulging in stimulants such as tobacco and alcohol. He declares 1939 the “Year of Health Responsibility”. The duty to be and remain mentally and physically healthy, and for leaders to be a good example for the German Youth. This HJ Leadership booklet was an aid to that endeavor.

The announced target for HJ Leaders for the month of February was for every HJ boy and Pimpf to open a savings account. Tasks for Stammführer, Gefolgschaftsführer and Scharführer also included checking the paperwork for SA and SS applications, making sure the HJ uniform was properly worn, inspect the Ski Camp of the Fränkische HJ, make preparations for the Heldengedenktag in March, etc.

The lyrics and musical notes of the song of the month is listed, as is the February 1939 calendar of sport events which included shooting, athletics and gymnastics. There is teaching material for HJ evenings about farming and farm equipment, and the formation of the Nazi Party.
