The extremely bold graphic shown here is the front cover of the 8-1/2 x 11-3/4 inch, very heavily illustrated, 56-page souvenir program sold at Kreistage in 1939 in Traditionsgau München-Oberbayern, the area around München (Munich), Germany.

Following large full-page portraits of Germany’s 23rd Chancellor, Adolf Hitler and the Gauleiter of München-Oberbayern, Adolf Wagner, are dozens of exceptional full-page and half-page black & white photographs.

The text mentions the historical nature of the Kreis Days of 1936, 1937 and 1938. The story of N.S.D.A.P. Kreistage is carefully depicted in photos and explained in text, from the Opening Ceremony, through the Meetings, Exhibitions, etc. Education and Art are stressed as are Occupational Trades and Manufacturing. Traditional dancing, parades, award ceremonies and community activities all share the spotlight under the eagle and swastika.

Plenty of space is devoted to the Hitler Youth, military sports like shooting, marching, bridging rivers, and climbing obstacles. Troops and paramilitary formations of all sorts are shown being reviewed, fed, spoken to and marched.

This 65+ year old softcover book is a rare and splendid look into the many activities of a typical Kreis Day in Germany during the Third Reich. It was published by Traditionsgau München-Oberbayern der NSDAP and printed by Buch- und Kunstdruckerei Max Schmidt & Söhne in Munich, and in it is among the best examples of this title we have been able to purchase in the last 25 years.
