Every year from 1927 through the years of World War II the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Franz Eher Nachfolger of München (Munich), Germany published a Nationalsozialistisches Jahrbuch (National Socialist Yearbook). The year books provided members of the NSDAP with all sorts on information from Martyrs of the Movement to detailed data about Gaue of the country of Germany, to names and addresses of the leaders of various governmental and paramilitary sections of the government and Party.

There were pictures of insignia and badges, maps, multi-page calendars for the year, statistical abstracts, interesting photographs and Nazi advertising in most Nationalsozialistische Jahrbücher. In short, these books more than any other, were the source of basic NSDAP information for Nazi Party members. Today they are exceedingly rare but basic history!

Like all yearbooks, these went out-of-date and most were discarded when no longer current. very few survived. The collection we offer here are from the archive of authors Ray & Josephine Cowdery and may very well be the only complete set extant. All volumes measure about 4-1/4 x 6-1/2 inches and are in a hard cover format and have a white Nazi eagle and swastika on the front red cover.

VOLUME 1 - 1927

190 pages of the earliest Nazi Party information imaginable, a double-page spread Gau Map, advertising, etc.

There are some notations written in German in the blank spaces provided on calendar pages and in the “Notes” pages in the back. Otherwise this book is in excellent condition.

VOLUME 2 - 1928

192 pages and the first year that the book starts with a Martyrs of the Movement page. In addition to general Nazi data there is even a list of Nazi approved German given names for boys and girls along with their meaning.

In the SS listing, Erhard Heiden is shown as Reichsführer of the SS.

VOLUME 3 - 1929

248 pages of amazing National Socialist information and advertising. 1929 was the year that the editors added a 10-page list containing hundreds of ,,Nationalsozialistische’’ Gaststätten or Nazi approved guesthouses (small hotels) that were sympathetic to the members of the NSDAP.

264 pages including information about Germans around the globe, the annual history of the Movement from the previous October through the current September, a comprehensive list of National Socialists in the Reichstag and Landtag assemblies, a list of all the National Socialist newspapers in Germany, etc.

VOLUME 5 - 1931

288 pages with Horst Wessel on page 3, joining the list of Nazis murdered by their enemies. In addition to the usual updated information this year book has a section on the “anti-Semitic press” from the time of Seneca with a publication list for the past four centuries. There is also an unusual picture of a printing press turning out copies of the Völkischer Beobachter. There is a full-page of political badges.

VOLUME 6 - 1932

320 pages with a 2-page list of 27 Nazi Martyrs murdered in the previous 12 months. On blank page 7 there is an inscription in ink from a woman named Liesel in Düsseldorf giving the NS Jahrbuch to her husband or boyfriend. This volume contains the usual annual update of Nazi history and leadership ranks, and finally lists Heinrich Himmler as Reichsführer of the SS. Information on the Hitler Youth is greatly expanded in the 1932 volume as are the lists of Nazis elected to seats in the Reichstag and Landtag assemblies. The Nazi Party had finally hit its stride in German elections and there is even a dissertation on “Revolution Without Barricades”.
