NAZI PARTY LONG-FORM PERSONAL QUESTIONNAIRE

NSDAP Fragebogen Anton Jeran
AN OFFICIAL FRAGEBOGEN
OR LONG-FORM PERSONAL
QUESTIONNAIRE FOR AN
AUSTRIAN NAZI LIVING
IN GERMANY
Immediately following the Anschluß or reunification of Austria with Germany in Großdeutschland (Greater Germany), the Staatskommissar in the Office of the Reichsstatthalter (the highest civil authority in the Gau) sent questionnaires from his office in Wien (Vienna) to all known Nazi Party members originally from Austria but living abroad.
Reichsstatthalter Gau Wien
This Fragebogen consists of a folder of four pages each measuring 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inches (A4) and a separate sheet of the same size inserted (six pages in all). Page 1 contains a photo of NSDAP member Anton Jeran in the upper right corner, in full uniform. A medal, probably the Austrian Legion medal, is hanging from the top uniform button and on his left breast pocket he wears the Nazi Party Honor Badge in Gold.

Anton Jeran was born 30 December 1900 at Klagenfurt in Kärnten. He married in 1922 and had three children. He joined the NSDAP in Austria on 1 May 1923 and on 15 September 1926 he joined the Nazi Party of Germany as Nazi Party member 52878. As an SA Mann with the rank of Scharführer he attended the Reichsparteitag in Nürnberg in 1929.

Because of his Nazi activities he was arrested a number of times and imprisoned. When the Nazi Party was outlawed in 1934 he fled Austria via Yugoslavia, arriving at a family camp in Pommern, Germany in April 1935. He attended the Reichsverwaltungsführerschule of the Hitler Youth in Niedersachsen (Lower Saxony). He was employed in Karlsruhe as a salesman and office worker. An entire recapitulation of his early Nazi experiences, his life in exile in Germany and his aspirations for a Nazi future are contained in the Fragebogen and the Lebenslauf (personal record) dated 28 April 1938.
NSDAP Questionnaire
These Fragebogen formed a very comprehensive human resources file for the Nazi Party in Austria after the Anschluß after they were thoroughly checked by the Gestapo. The Nazis could easily fill jobs in their hierarchy in Austria with reliable, experienced Austrians whom they could call home from abroad.

Surviving examples are extremely rare. From the collection of authors Ray & Josephine Cowdery, comes with a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity.
