FOR A WELL-KNOWN
MOTION PICTURE
CAMERAMAN IN
FACHSCHAFT FILM

This is a document grouping consisting of THREE very rare items:

1) the Nazi Mitglieds Ausweis or membership identity document for movie camera man Karl Geipel in the Fachschaft Film (Professional Group Movies) of the Reichsfilmkammer (State Movie Chamber) of the Reichskulturkammer (RKK or State Chamber of Culture). Geipel, of Manteuffelstraße 41 in Berlin-Tempelhof worked on many, many film projects in Nazi Germany during the Third Reich. His name can be found in lots of movie credits.

The brown leinen identity document measures about 5-1/2 x 8 inches (folds to 4 x 5-1/2 inches), with issued in Berlin on 17 September 1938, and contains a photo and signature of Geipel and signatures of three Reichsfilmkammer officers. Very good condition.

2) A 5-7/8 x 8 inch letter dated 9 December 1942 from the Reichsstand des deutschen Handwerks to Sonderführer (Z) Geipel at his Luftwaffe Feldpost while he was a combat Propagandakompanie (War Correspondent) photographer with the Wehrmacht, letting him know he had been awarded the title Herr Reichshandwerkmeister and the certificate and Meisterschaft medal of the deutschen Handwerk for his work in film. That was the highest honor they could bestow on Geipel. Very good condition.

3) The actual 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 inch red, grey, black and silver award certificate from the Reichsstand des deutschen Handwerks dated 1 December 1942 that came with the medal mentioned above. Sorry to say, we do not have the medal that came with the Meisterschaft medal mentioned above.

Geipel was very well known in film circles and his ID alone would be a spectacular addition to any Third Reich collection. With the award document and the letter to him while he was in the Armed Forces, it is virtually priceless. Very good condition.
