This is a genuine Waffen-SS belt and steel buckle that came out of the same cardboard box as the Waffen-SS uniform, the Luftwaffe uniform and other miscellaneous Third Reich items we purchased recently. The lot had been accumulated by a single GI in Europe near the end of World War II and had not been touched since he brought it home in 1945. None of the items have ever been in the hands of a collector or messed with by a dealer.

This is a rare opportunity to buy a high-quality Waffen-SS leather belt and painted steel buckle just as it was surrendered to an American GI at the end of World War II. The silver painted buckle measures 49 mm wide by 65 mm long, has pointed curved prongs and a wire belt catch with flattened ends that appears to be braised inside. The buckle is well-marked with the RZM logo followed by the number 155/40 followed by SS runes inside a double circle. The RZM number belonged to E. W. Assmann & Söhne of Lüdenscheid, manufacturers of Nazi medals, Nazi buckles, etc.

The supple leather belt is 45 mm wide, rough black on the outside and russet leather on the inside. It measures 41-1/2 inches in length and has an olive green painted aluminum keeper on one end. The leather turned back near the keeper is stamped K37 over 2905. The opposite end of the belt is stamped 105, its length in centimeters.

This is without question the real thing. It has never even been owned by a collector or dealer before. Until we bought it had spent its entire post-war life in the hands of the GI that brought it home. Very good used condition.

RIGHT: exactly the same sort of buckle worn by the two Waffen-SS men shown guarding supplies they captured from the British in Holland in 1944.
