In Europe we recently
acquired a photo album containing well-shot photos of a halftrack-mounted Waffen-SS PAK unit that appear to have been taken mostly in Normandy, France, most likely early in 1944. We originally listed this photo album with a request to help us identify the unit or the place where the photos were taken. We did not hear from anyone so we’ve simply decided to list the item for sale. This album has never been in the hands of a dealer.
The black hard cover photo album measures 6-1/8 x 9-3/8 inches (standard 15 x 23 cm pages) and contains 18 pages inter-leaved with spiderweb paper and 26 well-shot photos. There is a pair of SS runes in a 25 mm circle embossed on the front cover of the album. There are no photo captions in the album but some of the photos have captions written on the back that state they were taken early in 1944. On the fifth album page is a metal ID plate but we don’t know what kind of equipment it came off.
We are sure the photos belonged to the man shown in the HJ uniform and we have identified the background in that picture was taken in Wien or Vienna, the second largest city in Grossdeutschland (photo below).
The same man appears in several of the other photos in a SS uniform. We know the license plate number of the SS halftrack. It is SS 190533. The cuff title on the left arm of the right-hand man in a picture of two SS men in front of a brick wall reads HOHENSTAUFEN.
To give an idea of the quality of the photos we have adjusted some of them in Photoshop for contrast and clarity. We also show several pages to give a better idea what the unadjusted photos look like.

The photos is the first half of the album each have four black embossed mounting corners while those in the back half of the album each have four clear mounting corners.
A wonderful opportunity to acquire a never-before-seen set of original, nice quality Waffen-SS action photos that belonged to a single SS Officer or man.
