This is a nice original example of the very rare 5-7/8 x 8-1/8 inch, 96 page very heavily illustrated soft cover book Dich ruft die SS (The SS Calls You) published late in 1942 for the Reichsführer-SS - SS-Hauptamt in Berlin by Verlag Hermann Hillger in Berlin.
The book was intended to provide full information about the SS to prospective recruits and it is divided in to two sections: All About the Waffen-SS, and Experiences of SS Men in the War.
In the first section there are comments made by Adolf Hitler about SS, information about the volunteer nature of the Waffen-SS and the esprit de corps that comes with belonging to an elite military unit, how the Waffen-SS and its leaders relate to the National Socialist Movement, Waffen-SS training, the SS oath, SS leaders and men, opportunities in the Waffen-SS, SS Offices in Germany and in occupied territories, a word to the parents of SS men, SS formations, SS General Sepp Dietrich’s message, etc.
The second section deals with experiences of SS personnel in the war on all fronts in a variety of combat units. There is a chart explaining the equivalent Waffen-SS and Army ranks, and the trim colors found on Waffen-SS uniforms and insigne.
There is a general index, a message from Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, and at the end of the book an application for enlistment in the Waffen-SS.
Dich ruft die SS is rare, and fundamental to any real understanding of the Waffen-SS in World War II. This example is complete and in used condition. The cover shows significant wear. The title page has the name of the original SS owner written on it, with his SS battalion and regiment number.
