This is a nice original example of Der Mercker, the 1940 Youth Yearbook of the Volksbund für das Deutschtum im Ausland (VDA or National Association for Germanness Abroad).
The 4-3/8 x 6 inch, 236 page hard cover book begins with a photo of Nazi Führer Adolf Hitler greeting ethnic Germans from abroad at the Sportfest in Breslau.
There is a daily calendar for the year 1940 interspersed with quotations and basic information about the VDA, Germans in America, Canada, East Africa, South America and other countries. There are song lyrics and music and photographs of youthful Germans from around the world who return to Germany for VDA gatherings. The last 30 or 40 pages of the book contain advertising for German products that would be of interest to Germans abroad, from German motorcycles to cameras, to Hohner harmonicas.
