Der Adler (The Eagle) was a twice-monthly, oversize, very heavily illustrated magazine of Feldmarschall Hermann Göring’s Nazi Air Ministry in Berlin, Germany during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler. By 1943 the magazine was no longer offered for sale on newsstands and all 26 of these isues are marked in bold type on the cover SONDERDRUCK UNVERKÄUFLICH (SPECIAL PRINTING NOT FOR SALE). The meaning of that imprint of course, was that the magazine was for use within the Armed Forces and not for sale to the public.
This lot consists of all 26 complete German language issues of Der Adler dated from January through December of the year 1943. They cover a very critical period in the history of the Luftwaffe, a period of the development and introduction of new weapons, uniforms, aircraft, and technology.

These magazines contain articles and features such as the Volkswagen Schwimmwagen, Battle of Smolensk, Testing Rubber Boats, Knights Cross of the Iron Cross Winners, Sail Planes, the Equipment of German Pilots, Parachutist Jump Training, BMW Engine Plant, Stukas, the Graveyard of an American B17, Youthful Soldiers, GO-242, Entertaining Soldiers, Luftwaffe Gliders, Panzerdivision Hermann Goering, Paratrooper Pioniere, the Russian Front, Railroad-mounted 88 mm Guns, POWs, Finnish Aviation Heroes, Kuban, American Airplanes, Marching Boots, New Military Postage Stamps, the Richthofen Squadron, Adolf Hitler’s Birthday, Airplane Cutaways, Luftwaffe Field Divisions, Luftwaffe Paratrooper Ski Troops, Under The Swastika, Radios and Flying, Division Hermann Göring, Der Reichsmarschal, etc., etc.

Each issue runs approximately 24 to 30 pages and contains dozens of well-captioned photographs of all the latest in everything related to the German Air Force during World War II. There are many articles about, as well as photos of aircraft, weapons, uniforms, etc. By 1943 virtually all advertising was left out of Der Adler editions intended for the service so there is little or no advertising in these magazines. At the front of this large 4+ pound book is an Index to all 26 issues as well as an Index by subject.
These are extremely desirable German language issues of the historic 10 x 13 inch heavily illustrated Luftwaffe magazine. Der Adler was published in languages other than German but 65+ years later all editions are rare. The magazines are in very good condition.
