THE NSDAP!
Sterneckerbräu beer hall München
This is a beautiful old German machine based on a unique mechanical principal. We purchased it recently from a very slow talking man in a sleepy little village along the Donau (Danube River). It is ADLER Model 7 Serial Number 408587 as manufactured by ADLERWERKE Vorm. HEINRICH KLEYER A.-G. in Frankfurt aM, Germany probably just before 1920.

An extremely interesting historical side note regarding this machine is that it is apparently identical to the one in the first office of the Nazi Party in the Sterneckerbräu beer hall in München (Munich), Germany in 1920, on which Hitler claimed he typed his first articles for the Nazi Party Völkischer Beobachter newspaper.

The wonderfully built machine weighs about 22 pounds (10 kg) and appears to function perfectly in every respect. We can find no parts missing and the overall condition is quite fine.
German typewriter
The typing system is unique in that the hammers do not pivot when a key is depressed, but shoot straight forward to make contact with the paper. There are three characters vertically on each hammer, so instead of moving the carriage to a single different position, the levers on each side of the keyboard move the carriage downward to two additional levels. The sample type shown on the left was typed on this machine using the 25 mm wide (1 inch) ribbon that is in it.
ADLER Model 7
This machine has a beautifully made Art Nouveau brass label riveted to the hammer cover, bearing the name of Johann Jax of Linz, a manufacturer of sewing machines and bicycles, and perhaps a dealer in typewriters.

The keyboard has a German layout and the characters are all German of course.

This exceptional typewriter would make a wonderful addition to any collection of early Nazi Party material or a display featuring Nazi Party office equipment.
