This is a rare 1938 Nazi photo book called Das Antlitz der Deutschen Frau (The Face of the German Woman) with a foreword Emmy Göring. Former actress Emmy Sonnemann Göring, was the wife of Hermann Göring, World War I fighter pilot ace, recipient of the Pour le Mérite, President of the Reichstag, Head of the Four Year Plan, Nazi Aviation Minister and Reichsjägermeister. The picture on the original dust jacket shows Mrs. Goering (sitting on a hand carved wooden chair with swastikas on the back and arms) holding her newborn daughter Edda, the Godchild of Adolf Hitler.

The first photo in the book, opposite Emmy Göring's foreword, shows Hermann Goring in his Field Marshal uniform standing over wife Emmy and daughter Edda.

The foreword sets the tone for the book; the importance of the role of the German woman and mother in the nation's past, present and future, and as a wife. The approximately 100 (unnumbered) glossy art paper pages have clear photographs of German women greeting Adolf Hitler, mothers and babies, women at work in factories and at home, cooking and eating, in folklore clothing, children in NSV homes, NSV nurses, BdM girls in sport clothing, even an ethnic German Girl Scout from German Southwest Africa.

A photo of Nazi propaganda Minster Joseph Goebbels' wife Magda surrounded by her children (including Harald Quandt, the son from her first marriage to important German industrialist Günther Quandt, shown below right), accompanies her radio speech on the occasion of Mother's Day in 1933, and the 1938 Mother's Day speech given by Reichsminister Dr. Frick is also part of this 1938 edition of Das Antlitz der Deutschen Frau.

It also contains illustrations of women by Albrecht Dürer, Lucas Cranach, Karl Diebitsch, Fritz Klimsch, and other well-known German artists.

The last page of the book has photo credits including well-known photographers like Heinrich Hoffmann, Erna Lendvai-Dircksen, Dr. Paul Röttger, Hans Retzlaff, Fritz Bruno and others.

This original 8-5/8 x 9-3/4 inch example of Das Antlitz der Deutschen Frau has gold blocking on excellent, stiff, dark brown soft covers and was published by Henrich Hansen for Westfalen-Verlag GmbH of Dortmund in 1938. A.R.Marsani was responsible for the photo content and layout.

This 84 year old Nazi photo book is complete and in very nice condition with no odor. A previous owner had the rare original Third Reich dust jacket laminated to preserve it, and added the title of the book to the plain white spine prior to lamination.
