AUSCHWITZ CONCENTRATION CAMP MEMENTOS

Auschwitz
SS
A CUSTOM DISPLAY BOX CONTAINING MEMENTOS
FROM NAZI KONZENTRATIONSLAGER AUSCHWITZ
(KLA OR AUSCHWITZ CONCENTRATION CAMP)
KL Auschwitz
The name of no other Nazi Konzentrationslager (KL or Concentration Camp) will ever evoke the feelings that Auschwitz-Birkenau does. Konzentrationslager Auschwitz (KLA) was established by Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler on the site of an old military barracks in 1940 as a large “mother camp” that could supply prisoner labor for the construction of an enormous IG Farben synthetic rubber and fuel plant nearby. an enormous number perished.
In the vicinity of the small Silesian town of Auschwitz the Germans also established about 40 subcamps of KLA to supply labor to a wide variety of local industries. The main camp or ,,Stammlager” continued to expand throughout World War II. In October 1941 the Nazis began to construct KL Auschwitz II at Birkenau, three kilometers by railway from the main camp.

Auschwitz-Birkenau eventually became the largest of all the Nazi camps in the SS system of concentration camps and is today regarded as the most notorious. It is probably the most recognizable in photographs because of the unique railway entrance running through the Jourhaus and the publicity it received in the Steven Spielberg film “Schindler’s List”. Historians and others will always debate the number of prisoners who died at Birkenau and the method by which they died. No one will ever question the brutal conditions under which the prisoners lived or the fact an enormous number perished.
