People who received their education about World War II history from sources like The History Channel, Thames Television, any modern liberal arts college, or public schools will probably have difficulty dealing with this rare set of authentic Nazi documents. Most people today assume that the only way anyone ever left a Nazi concentration camp was dead, after their life was snuffed out by some horrible treatment on the part of their captors. Some inmates served their sentences or a portion of them, and were released into the general population. The very rare documents in this grouping are part of the history of one very lucky Auschwitz survivor.

These three documents all relate directly to 20 year old Heinz Krause of Berlin, who was an inmate at Konzentrationslager Auschwitz (KLA) from 24 April 1943 until 22 October 1943. After serving only six months of his sentence, Krause was released from Auschwitz on parole on 22 October 1943. The 5-5/8 x 8-1/4 inch Entlassungschein or Release Certificate dated 22 October 1943 was signed by a SS-Obersturmbannführer and is overstamped with a stamp that says Waffen-SS Kommandantur Auschwitz.
According to the separate 5-5/8 x 8-1/4 inch Reichssicherheitshauptamt document dated 27 October 1943, Krause was released from protective custody and the rules and regulations regarding his early release (report to police every 3 days) were explained to him by the Lagerkommandant of Auschwitz Concentration Camp. If Krause did not comply with the rules and regulations, he would be sent back to serve the remainder of his sentence.

The third item in this grouping is the 16-page membership booklet of Krause in the West Berlin chapter of the Vereinigung der Verfolgten des Naziregimes or the Association or People Persecuted by the Nazi Regime. It shows he became a member in April 1952 and this 3 x 4 inch VVN Mitgliedsbuch contains 1 Mark contribution stamps for the years 1964 to 1970.
We do not know what young Heinz Krause was in Schutzhaft or protective custody for, but we DO know the two rare Nazi documents dated 1943 are absolutely original to the Third Reich period in Germany. The rare original West Berlin VVN membership booklet adds interesting historical detail!
We have never seen another set of parole documents from any large Nazi Konzentrationslager.
