Bilder aus Berlin, Potsdam und Umgebung or "Pictures from Berlin, Potsdam and the Surrounding Area" is a fine Third Reich photo book highlighting all Reichshauptstadt Berlin and the area around it had to offer - historic and modern National Socialist buildings, monuments, culture, shopping and nightlife, and outdoor venues.

The 124 rotogravure photos were assembled by photographer and publisher Martin Hürlimann and the book was published by Atlantis Verlag of Berlin in 1936, the year the Summer Olympics were held in the capital of Nazi Germany. All the captions in this 7-¼ x 10-¼ inch, 128 page softcover Nazi photo book are in English, German and French. Clearly, Bilder aus Berlin, Potsdam und Umgebung was published with international Olympic visitors in mind!

The photos show the Brandenburg Gate on the Pariser Platz, the Reichstag building, Charlottenburg Palace, the Reichssportfeld (including the Olympic Stadium and Dietrich Eckart open air theater), the War Memorial (Neue Wache), the Arsenal, the architectural model of the planned Nazi Air Ministry designed by Ernst Sagebiel, the Reichschancellery and Propaganda Ministry on Wilhelmplatz, the Deutschlandhalle, Wilhelm Furtwängler conducting the Berlin Philharmonic, the Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church, Tempelhof Airport, modern Berlin by day and at night, Haus des Rundfunks, the State Opera building, the Pergamon Museum and the bust of Nefertiti in the Egyptian Museum, the ultra-modern Shell House on the Landwehr Canal, beaches at the Wannsee, Sanssouci Palace, the Garrison Church and Church of St. Nicholas in Potsdam, Wehrmacht soldiers during a military display in Potsdam, royal hunting estates outside Berlin, sail boats on the Havel, and more.

This 88 year old example of Bilder aus Berlin, Potsdam und Umgebung is complete and in nice used condition, with its original dust jacket which shows wear (see pictures at the top of this USMBOOKS web page). No odor.

The dust jacket still has part of the sticker of a bookstore on Unter Den Linden in Berlin where this book was sold. The title page has a handwritten dedication dated 1936.
