BLOOD ORDER RECIPIENT

Immediately following the Anschluß or reunification of Austria with Germany in Großdeutschland (Greater Germany), the Reichsstatthalter (the highest civil authority in the Gau) sent questionnaires from his office in Wien (Vienna, the second largest city in the Reich) to all known Nazi Party members in Austria in an effort to utilize them in the Nazification of the country.

This Bewerbungsfragebogen consists of a folder of four pages each measuring 8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inches (A4) and two separate letters of the same size (six pages in all). This questionnaire was completed on 22 August 1938 by Vienna resident Sophie Polacek, a Nazi Party member, and the wife of a Nazi Party member who participated with Hitler and Göring in the Putsch in München (Munich) on 9 November 1923 and was awarded the Blutorden or Blood Order of the NSDAP Movement.

The husband of Sophie Polacek was arrested for his Nazi activities and sentenced to 17 months in jail in 1934. In 1936 both Sophie Polacek and her husband fled to Germany but she returned to Austria after the Anschluß.

Enclosed with Sophie Polacek’s Questionnaire are two letters from a Mr. Behaghel of the NS Vermittlungsstelle, one to Police Vice President of Wien, SS-Oberführer Fitzhum and one to the Landesarbeitsamt in Wien, requesting that they find a job for Mrs. Polacek largely because of her relationship to a Blood Order holder.

Very nice condition, from the collection of authors Ray & Josephine Cowdery. Comes with a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity.
