Das Deutsche Jahr, Feiern der jungen Nation (The German Year, Celebrations by the Young Nation) is a rare Hitler Youth photo book by Claus Dörner published in cooperation with the Reichsjugendführung der NSDAP. This First Edition from 1939 was published by the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger in Munich on high-quality art paper with rotogravure photos, and most collectors have never seen a copy of it.
The foreword by Hitler Youth official, SS-Brigadeführer Carl Cerff explains the reason for the book: the first anniversary of Austria becoming a part of Adolf Hitler's Nazi Germany. It goes on to explain that the Austrian people were meant to be part of the Greater National Socialist German community, to share their beliefs and to work together for a better future. Das Deutsche Jahr "shows in word and pictures the realization of these shared principles, goals and beliefs."
There are chapters about creation of the Third Reich, history of Herbert Norkus (the Hitler Youth boy who died after being beaten up by Communist teenagers in the streets of Berlin in January 1932), Frederick the Great, the commemoration of Hitler's birthday, the Reichs Party Days, 9 November 1923 commemorations, Easter and Christmas, as well as the Dietrich Eckart poem Deutschland Erwache!, HJ song lyrics, Hitler quotes and Baldur von Schirach poems, etc.
Das Deutsche Jahr contains many photos of Adolf Hitler, the Berghof on the Obersalzberg, Hitler with Reichsjugendführer Baldur von Schirach and with Hermann Goering, Hitler Youth schools and homes, HJ rallies, HJ flags, BdM girls and HJ boys at the Reichsparteitag, may poles and harvest festivals, the Nazi Blood Flag at the Feldherrnhalle in Munich and Hitler with Blood Order recipients in Munich, and more. The photos are not the same old photos, but many are obscure or unique to this rare book.
This First Edition 8-½ x 11 inch, 216 page hardcover example of Das Deutsche Jahr, Feiern der jungen Nation comes with its original dust jacket (rare all by itself!) and a rare Gauverwaltung Steiermark Reichsarbeitsdienst presentation letter from War Christmas 1939.
The linen hardcover book (shown above) is in very good used condition, the original 80 year old dust jacket shows some wear and has a piece of tape at the top. No odor.
