GERMAN AMERICAN WAR MAGAZINES - NEW YORK

THREE ISSUES OF ,,DEUTSCH=AMERIKA,
A GERMAN MAGAZINE PUBLISHED IN NEW YORK CITY
DURING WORLD WAR I
|

|
| Here are three extremely rare issues of the German language weekly magazine ,,DEUTSCH=AMERIKA published in New York, New York during World War I. They are the issues of 3 June 1916, 19 May 1917 and 27 April 1918.
Naturally, the magazine was quite pro-German before the US entered the war, then softened its stance as the war went on.
The news in the 1916 issue was entirely about the war in Europe involving the Germans, French and the British. The photos of troops show German soldier and an ad for Kriegs-Schmuck openly expresses its German sympathies. The news in the 1917 issue was about German ships seized by the United States government in Hoboken and Havana, photos of a novel German Army shower bath train near the front, and women making aircraft wings in England.

|
| The 1918 issue featured the FIRST TO FIGHT - THE US MARINES and shows a downed German Gotha aircraft, guns, tanks, etc. Quite naturally, the greater part of pro-German material of this sort was destroyed when America joined the war on the side of the Allies, thus these are very rare. |
