Nazi victory Dieppe 1942
Canadian POWs
For reasons never properly explained, the British High Command made the decision to land a large force of Canadian troops in daylight on a broad stretch of coastal beach at Dieppe in German-Occupied France, without the slightest hope of victory or accomplishment.
Some historians have called the troops sent ashore the “Canadian kamikaze.” In under ten hours time on that August day in 1942, the Canadians took more than 3350 casualties and lost virtually all of their equipment!
Nazi Generals
This 6-1/8 x 9-1/2 inch, 20 page heavily illustrated soft cover booklet called simply “Dieppe 19. August 1942” tells the story in photographs from the German perspective.

The only text is on page 1, dated 10 September 1942 over the signature of a General of the Nazi Panzertruppe. It says this book is a memento to the heroism of the German soldiers who destroyed much of the 2nd Canadian Division on 19 August 1942 on the beach at Dieppe. Hand signed in ink by a German soldier Erich (apparently one of the German defenders) on 2/11/42.
