So wird man Fallschirmjaeger! 1941 Nibelungen-verlag Berlin
This is a nice First Edition example of the rare 6-3/4 x 9-1/2 inch, 96 page very heavily illustrated soft cover book So wird man Fallschirmjäger (The Making of a Paratrooper) by Hermann Groth and Ludwig Kade (both of III./Fallschirm-Jäger Regiment I) as published by the SS Publishing House Nibelungen Verlag in Berlin in 1941.

Nazi paratrooper training
Ludwig Kade wrote a very interesting, revealing, humorous poem about the making of a Nazi paratrooper and his paratrooper companion Hermann Groth illustrated it with his highly detailed but humorous wash drawings.

The contents covers every aspect of training, R & R and deployment of Fallschirmjäger in the German Wehrmacht during the Third Reich. As in the American armed forces, paratroopers in the Wehrmacht were an elite unit and individual Fallschirmjäger spent their time thinking about fighting, women and their next leave. Getting the paratrooper qualification badge was a big deal. The book ends with a picture of a German paratrooper about to land on the back of a very frightened, running Winston Churchill!

Nazi paratroopers
The original dust jacket of this 79 year old Nazi book is somewhat worn and has some brown flecking. The internal pages and their illustrations are in excellent shape. This First Edition (1 of 20,000 printed) of So wird man Fallschirmjäger has an extra unnumbered page (shown left) attached in the front explaining a bit about the background of SA-Mann and Fallschirmjäger Hermann Groth.

There is also a bookplate on the front flyleaf showing this book was given by the NSV to a recuperating Kamerad, thanking the soldier for his service and sacrifice to the Fatherland. The bookplate (shown directly below) has original signatures of a Kreisleiter and Kreisamtleiter of Kreis Hildburghausen in Thuringia, within just a couple of miles of the Walther weapons works in and around Zella-Mehlis and Suhl.

A rare 81 year old Third Reich paratrooper book in very good used condition.   No odor.
