A 1941 GESTAPO LETTER
REGARDING VISAS FOR TRAVEL TO BULGARIA AFTER A NEW SECRET DECREE FROM HEINRICH HIMMLER |
||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This rare Gestapo Schnellbrief or urgent letter was written from the Gestapo (Geheime Staatspolizei or Secret State Police) Head Office in Wien (Vienna) on 25 March 1941 to the Reichsstatthalter (the highest Nazi government authority) in Wien, Baldur von Schirach, and to the head of the Gau Leadership, Dr. Hans Dellbrügge. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| The letter was written as a result of the 19 March 1941 Secret Release from Der Reichsführer-SS und Chef der deutschen Polizei im Reichsministerium des Innern (Heinrich Himmler, Head of the Nazi Police) regarding visas for travel to and from Bulgaria. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| Effective immediately, German citizens and non-Bulgarian foreigners were not allowed to travel to Bulgaria, unless the trip was for business purposes. Himmler stated that all requests for travel papers should be denied, no matter what other purpose the trip may have. The German Foreign Office in Berlin was mentioned as the only place allowed to give out proper visas and other required travel papers. This letter further outlines the paperwork needed to request a visa at the Auswärtiges Amt in Berlin (passport, letter from Chamber of Commerce, etc.), the cost, etc. |
