The Münchener Zeitung was one of the city’s oldest newspapers covering all that was news in southern Germany. This original 16-page, 14 x 20 inch weekend issue of 3 / 4 August 1940 is unique in that it has a 3 inch long purple stamp applied above the masthead by the Geheime Staatspolizei or Gestapo because it was their file copy of the paper. They naturally kept a file for all the right legal reasons in case they ever had to refer back to it.
The news in this 1940 Munich paper is about British government troubles in London, air raids and war news. Many cartoons and the want ads are wonderful - antique watches, fur coats, oriental rugs, etc.
