RARE NAZI MAJOR’S LEAVE-PASS FOR GREATER PARIS

Aufenthaltsbescheinigung für Gross-Paris

A 1944
LEAVE-PASS
GROUPING FOR
GROSS-PARIS
IN THE NAME
OF A
WEHRMACHT
MAJOR

This is a splendid 3-1/4 x 4-7/8 inch Aufenthaltsbescheinigung für Gross-Paris (Leave Pass for Greater Paris) number L 534,713 dated 1 July 1944 granting leave to Major Karl Wapler who had Soldbuch number 1 at Feldpost number L 20 736. Wapler’s pass shows that he was not obliged to any curfew and that he would be staying at the Hotel Louvre in the heart of the City of Lights.

Obvious by his Soldbuch number, Wapler was the commander of his outfit and managed to get in his Paris leave or leaves (the pass was good through 31 October 1944) before the Americans marched through the city on 25 August.

German Paris Guidebook
Also included with Wapler’s military pass are three souvenir items he acquired in Paris:

1) A German guidebook on “How to See Paris in Four Days” (this 4-1/4 x 6 inch 72 page book contains a full-color Paris subway map and a big 22 x 29 inch full-color fold-out map of Paris),
2) A set of twenty 2-9/16 x 3-1/2 inch glossy photographs of the principal attractions in Paris in their original package, and
3) A fancy booklet containing twenty 3-1/2 x 5-3/4 inch printed postcards featuring the principal sights in Paris.
The items in this lot were recently purchased in Germany, are absolutely guaranteed to be from the 1944 period, and are in very good condition.
