This is an excellent example of the big 11 x 15 inch, 64-page very, very heavily illustrated “Special Edition” of the JB or Illustrierter Beobachter (Illustrated Observer) magazine published by the Central Publishing House of the NSDAP, Verlag Franz Eher Nachfolger in München (Munich) in 1933.
The occasion for the publication of this “Sondernummer” of the magazine was the ascension of Adolf Hitler to the position of 23rd Chancellor of the nation of Germany. Like the humble beginnings of American President Abraham Lincoln, much is made in this publication of the very humble life of the insignificant Gefreiter of World War I who went on to become the Supreme Leader of the most powerful country in Europe just 14 years later!
This magazine was published by the Nazi Party, so in terms of access to Hitler and to the archive of photos and information from his early years, no subsequent publication has ever done a better job. It begins with priceless photo material from Hitler’s infancy in Braunau am Inn and follows the boy to Passau, Leonding, Urfahr and Linz. It covers his army days superbly, his artistic talent, and the early days of the NSDAP.
It also covers the November 1923 Putsch and Hitler’s days in Landsberg prison, his beer hall speaking days and his time at Haus Wachenfeld on the Obersalzberg above Berchtesgaden. There are rare photos of the interior of his Munich apartment, his office, Hitler passing time with his friends and animals, and his interests outside of politics. The big magazine ends with essays on the man and his work, the Nazi victory in German elections and the appointment of Hitler as Chancellor.
There are many fascinating advertisements in the magazines for Nazi products from uniforms and flags to books.

One page has been scotch taped but otherwise this very rare 75 year old magazine is in excellent condition.

Also for sale on usmbooks.com, original Third Reich publications about
Adolf Hitler
, and additional issues of Illustrierter Beobachter.
