Adolf Hitler book plate
Ex Libris Adolf Hitler
This is a very special original example of the 5-1/4 x 8 inch, 440 page hard cover book Scholle und Schicksal (Homeland and Destiny) by well-know German playwright Max Halbe as published by Verlag Knorr & Hirth in München (Munich) in 1933.

The book is an acclaimed German autobiography of Max Halbe’s life and was a gift from Halbe to Adolf Hitler in March 1933. In addition to Halbe’s handwritten dedication to Hitler, the book contains Hitler’s personal book plate and a hand typed note from the American GI who recovered the book in the basement of the Reichschancellery in Berlin.

Max Halbe dedication to Adolf Hitler
The dedication by Halbe on the front end paper is written in his own hand in purple ink and says “To the Reichschancellor and Führer of the German people Adolf Hitler ... From Max Halbe, München March 1933”.

Opposite the dedication on the inside of the front cover is an absolutely authentic eagle and swastika book plate from Adolf Hitler’s personal library.

At the top of the page bearing Halbe’s dedication is a typed 1 x 3 inch note scotch taped to the page saying, “Book from Hitler’s private Library in the basement of the Reich Chancellery. Note Hitler’s private book plate and personal autograph to Hitler by author.”

Hitler's private library
German author Max Halbe (1865–1944) was born in Güttland (now in Poland), not far from Danzig, Germany.

A friend of well-known playwright and actor Frank Wedekind, poet Otto Hartleben and philosopher Keyserling, he was a member of the artistic milieu in the Munich University area of Schwabing. His most successful work was the play Jugend (Youth), a lyrical evocation of first love with a tragic outcome. The realistic Mutter Erde (Mother Earth from 1897) and Der Strom (The Stream from 1904) stress the inevitability of fate and use natural disaster as a symbol for social catastrophe. Hitler was fond of his work.

Scholle und Schicksal - Max Halbe
A rare opportunity to own a book that was actually once owned by, and perhaps ready by Nazi Party Führer and Germany’s 23rd Chancellor Adolf Hitler. Cover and spine are soemwhat soiled, but otherwise this book is in very good condition.
