Perfect for any original World War One cabinet card portrait!

This is a very fine, very well-made absolutely authentic Imperial German cast iron picture frame manufactured in the shape of an Iron Cross with a crown in the top lobe and surrounded with a wreath of deep relief laurel and oak leaves. We guarantee it to be original to the World War I period in Germany, or earlier. It is a work of fine art.

The deep relief nickel plated (NOT chrome plated) iron frame is about 7-3/4 inches wide x 9-5/8 inches tall (195 x 245 mm), weighs about 1 pound 6 ounces and has a cavity in the back side for a standard German 110 x 165 mm (4-5/16 x 6-1/2 inch) cabinet card photograph.

The back is fitted with a spring-loaded combination picture holder and support leg, and in the bottom lobe of the Iron Cross is the abbreviation Ges. Gesch. (roughly "patent pending" in German).

This is a fine old frame, ABSOLUTELY NOT A REPRODUCTION, and is in fine original condition, perfect for any historical Imperial German military photograph.

The oval measures 95 x 145 mm (3-3/4 x 5-3/4 inches). We have never cleaned or polished this frame and it is still looks in wonderful 100% original condition. It has perfect patina and consistent aging throughout. We have placed a replica cabinet card in the frame in the picture at the left/right to show how the card is held in place. The frame was empty (without a card) when we purchased in Germany many years ago.
