| This original A4 size letter (8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch) dated Oranienburg, Germany, 28 December 1939, is the SS archival copy of a letter written by Reichsführer-SS Concentration Camp Inspector SS-Hauptsturmführer Ronninger to document the spectacular escape of Jewish concentration camp inmate, Ignaz Seraphin, on 22 December of that year. Ignaz Seraphin, described in this letter as a Jüdische Berufsverbrecher or professional Jewish criminal, was part of a camp inmate work detail that was guarded by fellow inmate Kapos doing repair work at a SS housing facility in the concentration camp at Oranienburg, a subcamp of the nearby mother camp at Sachsenhausen. Seraphin left his group without permission on 22 December, somehow gained access to SS clothing closets, changed into a complete SS uniform and fled Konzentrationslager Oranienburg (KLO). SS-Hauptsturmführer Ronninger summed up his report for the General Inspector of the SS-Totenkopf Standarten with the following conclusion: |

| All concentration camp inmates are enemies of the state of the worst kind and should be guarded at all times. This escape should be used as an example for camp security so a repeat will not happen. Inmate working details at SS housing facilities should be avoided if possible and IF necessary should take place under heavy security! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||

| This letter was typed on a SS typewriter with a SS runes key and the Ronninger signature is in ink. It is a rare, remarkable original report of an equally remarkable escape from the watchful eyes of SS members of the SS-Totenkopf (death head) Standard guarding a very secure SS facility just north of the city of Berlin. One day the story of Ignaz Seraphin will probably be made into a movie by Steven Spielberg! | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
