This is a very good First Edition example of the rare 130-page 8 x 10-1/2 inch very heavily illustrated hard cover memorial book Kampfgruppe Scherer - 105 Tage Eingeschlossen (Task Force Scherer - 105 Days Surrounded) written by German war correspondent Richard Muck and published by Gerhard Stalling Verlag in Oldenburg, Germany in 1943. The book is printed on very nice quality paper for something published so late in the war.
This book of course, tells the incredible story of the horrific sacrifices and the iron will of the men of Kampfgruppe Scherer, surrounded and bombarded at Cholm by the Red Army for 105 days from January to May 1942.
The photos in this book show the every day life of German Landsers forced to make due with what they had. There is great uniform, weapon and equipment detail, the awarding of the Knights Cross of the Iron Cross, downed Soviet aircraft, battle victims, parachute containers, mail delivery, food preparation, fortifications, military vehicles and tanks, German graves, etc., etc.
This is unique photo material of the most interesting kind. There is a full-page illustration of the Cholm Shield at the end of the book and a big two-color fold-out map of the battlefield. Very hard to find, in very good used condition. Cover shows some wear but the content is tight and clean.

Over 150 full- and half-page black & white photos (and one great full-page full-color photo) document every horrible moment for every man "from Grenadier to General," from -52° temperatures to seas of spring mud. Resupplied by parachute from the air for months, just surviving the ordeal at Cholm was considered an enormous achievement, and was rewarded with a Cholm Shield sleeve badge.
