KRIPO MURDER INVESTIGATION REPORT

Kriminalpolizei Wien Kripo
OFFICIAL KRIMINALPOLIZEI REPORT ON THE INVESTIGATION OF THE MURDER OF ADOLFINE BAC
Nazi Murder Investigation
This very rare two-sided sheet of A4 (8-1/4 x 11-5/8 inch) paper is a report of the findings of an investigation by the Nazi Kriminalpolizei (Kripo or Criminal Police) into the bloody murder of 38 year old Adolfine Bac, the wife of a Wehrmacht soldier away at the front.

Mrs. Bac’s mother and two friends went to her residence after not hearing from her for two days. They found a large pool of blood in the kitchen and the bedroom door locked. The Kripo was called and when they opened the bedroom door they found Adolfine Bac dead, face down on the bed, soaked in blood, with her throat slit.

The subsequent Kripo investigation concluded that she had been murdered by a 21 year old employee, Friedrich Hofbauer whom they captured on the evening of the 6th of January 1942 in the Café Rathaus, with a knife wound on his hand . After a bit of Kripo “prompting” Hofbauer admitted the murder but claimed he had only wanted to scare Mrs. Bac. The murder weapon was found in Mrs. Bac’s kitchen cupboard.
Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirach
There was certainly more than an employer/employee relationship between Hofbauer and Adolfine Bac. The report contains a far more detailed recap of the investigation than presented here. It is a perfect example of the thoroughness with which the Kriminalpolizei pursued their suspects.

The report was prepared by the Kripo for the Polizeipräsident in Wien (Vienna) in the office of the Reichsleiter. The green notation at the center of page 2 was put there by Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirach to show that he had personally reviewed the matter and had no further questions. The red notation indicates that the report was read by Dr. Hans Dellbrügge, Von Schirach’s deputy in the police department. It bears all the correct police and Reichsleiter incoming stamps.

Kriminalpolizei report - extortion
The second piece of this Adolfine Bac murder investigation lot shown on the left, is dated 13 January 1942. It is a copy of a Kriminalpolizei report containing more details of the gruesome murder. Friedrich Franz Hofbauer had revealed more details about the murder which were added to the murder file.

He admitted that the purpose of the murder was extortion. The relationship between him and Bac has soured and he threatened to reveal their liaison unless she would give him money. She refused and slapped him in the face and in the rage that followed Hofbauer stabbed her with a knife he had brought from his house. After the stabbing he dragged Bac to her bedroom. He then left her and returned around 4 pm, when he last spoke to her. He admitted to taking 50 Reichsmarks from Bac’s wallet and 50 Memphis cigarettes from her desk.

The extremely rare Kripo murder investigation report is in very good original condition and is from the collection of authors Ray & Josephine Cowdery. It comes with a signed and dated Certificate of Authenticity.
