This is a rare 9-1/2 x 12-1/4 inch, 88 page very heavily illustrated soft cover book called KULTURMACHT JAPAN - Ein Spiegel Japanischen Kulturlebens in Vergangenheit und Gegenwart (Cultural Strength of Japan - an Examination of Japanese Cultural Life in the Past and Present) as published by Die Pause in Wien (Vienna) in 1942 or 1943 at the direction of Admiral Richard Foerster with an introduction by Japanese Ambassador to Germany General Hiroshi Oshima.
In an extremely thorough way, this book presents various sections by people like Dr. Walter Donat, Professor Dr. Karl Haushofer, Architekt Max Hinder, Ibara Saikaku, Prof. Dr. Otto Kümmel, Prof. Dr. Kenji Moriya, Dr. Zenichi Yamanishi and others to inform German readers on subjects such as the Japanese principal of national existence, traditions in Japanese national and cultural life, Japan’s land and people, art in Japan, music in Japan, Japanese theater, Japanese movies, dance in Japan, Japanese youth, Japan in Germany, etc.
On the final page of the book there is a list of the leaders of the Deutsch-Japanischen Gesellschaft as well as the Institute und Lektorate für Japankunde.
The essays are carefully illustrated with black & white and color illustrations of the most suitable kind, not found elsewhere in Third Reich literature on the Kingdom of Japan. An excellent study in very good condition.
