This is a beautiful old piece that we bought with medals from the estate of a veteran that was never sewed on to a uniform. It is a wonderfully die struck brass Narvik shield measuring 90 mm (3-1/2 inches) in length, mounted with a paper backed steel plate on field grey backing measuring 4-1/8 inches from top to bottom. The Nazi Narvikschild military award was instituted on 19 August 1940, and authorized for all members of the Wehrmacht that took part in the battle of Narvik in Norway between April 9 and June 9 of 1940.
The shield is in excellent condition completely covered in a fine patina. The paper backing on the steel plate that holds the shield to the field grey cloth is stained but in very good condition.
