NAZI POW DOGTAG STALAG XII

Stalag XII F
AN ABSOLUTELY ORIGINAL NAZI POW DOGTAG BROUGHT
BACK TO AMERICA BY A US 5th ARMORED DIVISION GI
This is an absolutely authentic 1-5/8 x 2-3/8 inch (40 x 60 mm) German Erkennungsmarke or dogtag of the two-part rectangular style issued to Prisoners of War (Kriegsgefangene), not to German soldiers. The dogtag bears the inscription Stalag XII F and the number Nr: 22338. originally, the tag inscription said Stalag XII B, but the B was overstamped with an F prior to issue by the German authorities.

Stalag XII B was at Frankenthal (Palatinate) very near to the location of Stalag XII F at Forbach along the German/French border near Metz. The camp’s first inmates arrived in the fall of 1940 and it was liberated in March 1945. In addition to French, Russian and Polish POWs, Ukrainian volunteers were held there and there is still a monument to them at the site of the camp.

We bought this Nazi Erkennungsmarke from the estate of the 5th Armored Division GI who brought it back to the United States after World War II.
This German Stalag XII F POW dogtag is **SOLD**.
