During the Nazi era in Germany workers in that industry were members of the Reichskulturkammer (RKK or State Chamber of Culture) Reichskammer der bildenden Kunst or State Chamber of Visual Arts.

The magazine for workers in these industries was ,,Deutsche Malerzeitung DIE MAPPE’’ (German Painter Magazine THE FOLIO). The heavily illustrated 8-1/4 x 11-1/4 inch, 20 or so page magazine was published monthly and brought subscribers news of the industry as well as examples of the best work of some of their colleagues

Callwey in München (Munich), Germany, each issue was packed with excellent examples of good work done in the decorative arts trades from huge exhibition rooms, to Gasthaus signs, to the famous painted targets used in rifle marksmanship competitions. Furniture decorations, family coat of arms and murals for Wehrmacht and NSDAP facilities were a regular, important part of this business. The magazines contained trade advertising for things like paint, paint brushes, goldleaf, schools, books and Nazi charities.

Because German decorators often did (and still do) use wise sayings and old maxims as elements of domestic and institutional design, the magazine sold colorful sample sheets of the latest popular alphabet type faces, signs and showcards. Swastika flag
