This is a fine, complete example of the Nazi art magazine Die Kunst im deutschen Reich ("The Arts in the German Reich"), the August/September 1940 Ausgabe B issue as produced by the Zentralverlag der NSDAP, the Central Publishing House of the Nazi Party, Franz Eher of Munich.

The 30 pages of Die Baukunst that are part of this magazine have pictures and architectural drawings of the huge atelier of sculptor Josef Thorak outside of Munich designed by Albert Speer, as well as Speer's own home and workplace on the Obersalzberg above Berchtesgaden. Designs and photos of several atelier of other artists are also shown as well as the Hermann-Göring-Meisterschule in Kronenburg (Eifel).

Ausgabe A is shown at the bottom of this
USMBOOKS web page (below Ausgabe B).
The magazine was large in size (11 x 14 inch), huge is scope and right to the end (Fall 1944) it was published at the direction of Chancellor Adolf Hitler himself by Zentralverlag der NSDAP, Franz Eher Nachfolger on fine quality paper using the best available inks. It was under the supervision of an extremely prestigious group of directors that included Reichsminister Professor Albert Speer of Berlin, Professor Richard Klein of the Academy of Applied Arts in München and Professor Leonhard Gall of Studio Troost in Munich.

Huge full-page, full-color and black & white photographs dominated the format of Die Kunst im Deutschen Reich. Many of the pictures were never published elsewhere and none were published in a larger format.

This 116-page issue starts with the famous Conrad Hommel painting of Führer und Oberste Befehlshaber der Wehrmacht Adolf Hitler - shown left.
This is followed by an article by Alfred Rosenberg on the destiny of art which is accompanied by illustrations of heroic Arno Breker sculptures, Claus Bergen naval paintings, a Franz Eichhorst painting of a Nazi soldier during the invasion of Poland (below), a bust of Horst Wessel by Fritz Koelle, and the Hermann-Göring-Werke as painted by Franz Gerwin.
