This is an excellent example of the 5-7/8 x 8-1/4 inch, 138 page, very heavily illustrated softcover book ,,Fachkunde für Kraftfahrzeughandwerker und Motorenbauer’’ (Expertise for Automobile Handworkers and Motor Builders) as published by Creutz’sche Verlagsbuchhandlung in Magdeburg, Germany in 1942. The very rare book is one of the first in the world to feature a KdF (Kraft durch Freude or Strength through Joy) car or Volkswagen on the front cover.

The book is really a manual intended for use by professionals in the automotive industry and by schools preparing workers for the automotive industry. Because of its relatively late Third Reich printing date of June 1942, it contains vastly more modern technical information than other similar automotive automotive books published even one year earlier. It also contains over 200 photographs and illustrations NOT FOUND in other automotive books and publications of the period.

Quite naturally, the book provides up-to-date information on major components and systems of cars, trucks, tractors, motorcycles, busses, halftracks and the like, but it also gets into things like unibody construction, technical data on the Reichsautobahn, boxer motors, suspension, turn indicators, portable wood and coal gas generators (shown right), etc.
