Mercedes-Benz racing
Autorennen mit Mercedes-Benz George Monkhouse
Mercedes-Benz race car
Rudolf Caracciola
Nazi racing
This is a nice used example of the rare 7 x 9-1/2 inch, 144 page, heavily illustrated hard cover book Autorennen mit Mercedes-Benz (Car Racing with Mercedes-Benz) by George Monkhouse as published by Verlag Knorr & Hirth in München (Munich), Germany in 1939.
The superb book covers the subject of Grand Prix racing in Germany in the 750 kg formula class through 1937 better than anything else in print. Following a foreword by Europameister and German Champion Rudolf Caracciola, there is a splendid text augmented by 114 racing photographs.
The photographs show people like Caracciola, Rosemeyer, Von Brauchitsch, NSKK Korpsführer Hühnlein, Bäumer, Nuvolari, Müller, Seaman, Lang, Sailer, Neubauer, Fagioli, Kautz, Stuck, Marshall Italo Balbo, Ruesch, Geier, Uhlenhaut and others.
All the big races are covered in the book such the Grand Prize of Tripolis, the Eifel Race, the Avus Race, Monaco, Germany, Belgium, Italy, and even the Vanderbilt Cup at Roosevelt Racetrack in New York which was won by Bernd Rosemeyer.

All the great Mercedes-Benz cars of the period are shown, but so are the record breaking Auto-Union cars, Alfa Romeo cars and others. At the back of the book there is a recap of all the first three-place winners of all the big races run in 1937.

This book was apparently owned by somebody in auto racing in Germany and the cover has finger print smudges on it and wear to the top and bottom edges. The tops and bottoms of some of the pages of Autorennen mit Mercedes-Benz are lightly damaged up to half an inch in but none of the damage extends to the pictures or text. A great book with 114 superb pictures not available elsewhere.

KAMPF MIT 500 PS
(DOING BATTLE WITH 500 HORSEPOWER)
BY MANFRED VON BRAUCHITSCH
risqué Nazi illustration
illustrations by Jonny
Among the most famous auto racers in Germany during the Third Reich of Adolf Hitler was Mercedes-Benz driver Manfred von Brauchitsch. The rare hard cover book we offer here is a very nice example of the 5 x 7 inch, 160 page, heavily illustrated called Kampf mit 500 PS (Doing Battle with 500 Horsepower) as published by Militärverlag Karl Siegismund in Berlin in 1940.
With 24 wonderful pen and ink illustrations by Jonny and a text written for race fans, Manfred von Brauchitsch gives a very human explanation of the behind the scenes activities that win races at the Grand Prix level of formula racing.
Very good condition and very rare. Slight moisture damage at the very bottom of the spine, but no odor whatsoever.
