In a size of 8-1/4 x 9-3/4 inches, this very heavily illustrated 112 page hard cover book called Zu den Palmen Libyens (To The Palm Trees of Libya) was written by well-known German journalist and author Max Geisenheyner and published by Knorr & Hirth in München (Munich), Germany in 1938.
Zu den Palmen Libyens is subtitled “10,000 Kilometers Through Italy and Africa” and in superb color photographs it tells the story of a photographer/journalist on a trip in a large, open Mercedes-Benz car across Italy via Florence, Rome and Sicily to Libya in North Africa, where he photographed the Grand Prix of Tripolis.
Many of the photos taken in Italy and Libya are absolutely striking but those of the Grand Prix are outstanding. They show the race track, celebrity race starter Italian Air Marshal Balbo (Italy controlled Libya at the time); the race cars of Mercedes and Alfa Romeo, race drivers like Hermann Lang, Manfred von Brauchitsch and Rudolf Caracciola, all in superb color!
A wonderful book with 48 rare full-color pictures. This example of Zu den Palmen Libyens is in very good condition and comes with color photocopy of the rare dust jacket. It has advertising for other travel and photography books published by the Knorr & Hirth publishing house.
