RARE 1934 ADVERTISING + ORDER FORM FOR THE NEW SOMEWHAT RISQUÉ “SOLDIER GERMAN DICTIONARY”

This is a rare two-sided piece of advertising from December 1934 by Freiheitsverlag (Freedom Publishing House) in Berlin for their new illustrated soldier dictionary Soldatendeutsch by Hauptmann Heydemark.

It was advertised as a welcome addition to linguistics in general but also as a commemorative publication for World War I veterans, a funny book for men with a sense of humor with 450 “charming illustrations”. Not appropriate for young girls but harmless in any library, according to the publisher.

This rare 16 x 23 cm (6-¼ x 9 inch) piece of Third Reich ephemera has illustrated advertising for the new soldier dictionary on one side and a facsimile of an announcement letter from the publisher on the reverse side, with an order form along the bottom edge (shown left). Note the Nazi eagle and swastika logo of the Reichsstelle zur Förderung des deutschen Schrifttum, the Nazi State Agency for the Advancement of German Literature.

This nearly 90 year old original piece of Third Reich book advertising is complete and in used condition. The original green color has faded to a yellow-ish moss color and the edges are now light brown. It has two tape repairs. Amazing that it somehow survived!
