Mozartwoche or Mozart Week in Germany during the Third Reich was a very festive occassion as Mozart was considered one of the true geniuses of German culture. In 1941 Mozart Week was held in German’s second largest city, Wien (Vienna) from 28 November to 5 December under the auspices of Reichsminister Dr. Josef Goebbels and Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirach.
The 8-1/4 x 11-3/4 inch 12 page program we offer here is printed in two colors and offers a complete day-by-day, hour-by-hour schedule of the various events, speeches, musical performances, etc. held all over Vienna from the State Opera House, Schönburnn Palace, Winterpalais des Prinzen Eugen, Palais Lobkowitz, to Pallavicini Palace and the Riding Hall in the Hofburg. A great deal of Mozart’s music was performed by the best musicians from throughout the Reich. Speeches were given by Nazi notables such as Reichsleiter Baldur von Schirach, Dr. Josef Goebbels, Professor Dr. Erich Schenk with music conducted by the likes of Wilhelm Furtwängler, Richard Strauss, Karl Böhm, Clemens Krauß, Leopold Reichwein, etc.
