Nazi memorial funeral document
Ingmar Koller was killed on 28 September 1942
the life of Gebirgsjäger Koller
Wehrmacht service
Hauptmann Siebeck wrote his family a letter about what kind of a man and comrade Ingmar Koller was and the circumstances of his untimely death
Ingmar Koller must have been quite a remarkable young man. The actual photo tipped-in on page 3 shows a strong, smiling pleasant looking young man, apparently upon completion of his training with the 2nd Hochgebirgsjäger-Bataillon I (the High Mountain Rifleman Battalion).

This book is a 6-3/4 x 9-1/2 inch, 40 page Nazi memorial funeral document published to record the accomplishments of the 19 year old man who always wanted to be a soldier. The book records that he was the son of a veterinarian and was born in Wien (Vienna) in 1924. His mother died in 1930 during childbirth and the family moved to a small town.  It tells about his days in primary school and Gymnasium as well as his academic accomplishments. He studied English, French, Greek and Latin. As a boy he traveled widely in Europe.
In December 1936 Ingmar joined the illegal Hitler Youth (see last paragraph in photo above) where he was Kameradschaftsführer, Jungzugführer, Hautpscharführer and Bannschießwartführer. He got his Grundschein for orienteering, his Class 4 driver's license and his HJ Leistungsabzeichen in Silver. From 4 October to 16 January 1942 he served in the RAD or Reichsarbeitsdienst after which he enlisted in 6. Infanterie-Ersatz-Bataillon II/482 at Braunau am Inn (Hitler's birthplace). In March he trainer as a Panzerjäger with his regiment, and in May he went to Berchtesgaden for training with 2. Hochgebirgsjäger-Bataillon I.
The rest of this book is a day-by-day diary of the travels and daily experiences of the young Gebirgsjäger as he traveled east into the Soviet Union. He recorded what he saw, what he ate and how much sleep he got. He talked about the minutia of soldiers on the march and of the great day when he entered combat. Ingmar Koller was killed on 28 September 1942 at Geimanberg in the west Caucasus.

A friend wrote a poem about him and a Hauptmann Siebeck wrote his family a letter about what kind of a man and comrade Ingmar Koller was and the circumstances of his untimely death.

A rare and touching personal story of a young Wehrmacht soldier killed in action in the Kaukasus. Very good condition.
