An extremely high percentage (probably 99% or more) of the Kennkarte or Civilian Identity Document issued by the police in Nazi Germany were of the tear-resistant, once folded, gray "leinen" type (shown right) containing a front and back cover and two inside pages. That type of Kennkarte was replaced with a new 8-page version (shown left) when supplies of it ran out in some police offices late in the war. Most police offices never exhausted their supply of the old style document before the end of the war, so they never issued even a single example of the 8-page Kennkarte.
This USMBOOKS web page contains a variety of original Third Reich Kennkarte or Civilian Identity Documents, made of tear-resistant gray Leinen. They are individually priced, and all 100% original to the Third Reich period in Nazi Germany. If you are interested in a rare 8-page, late war Kennkarte, click HERE.
Shown left is the 4-page leinen 1st type Kennkarte or Third Reich Civilian identity document of Klara Rosalia Fessel who was born 20 October 1904 in Wien. This 1st style Kennkarte number N 049469 was issued by the Police Office in Vienna on 8 January 1944 and was valid until 8 January 1949. Her occupation is listed as Schneiderin or tailor.
This Kennkarte is absolutely 100% original to the Third Reich period in Greater Germany. With original ID photo.
