A NAZI NEWSPAPER SUBSCRIPTION
STAMP BOOK FOR THE
WESTDEUTSCHER BEOBACHTER
This is an excellent rare example of a 4-1/8 x 5-3/4 inch, 20 page red linen-finish covered ten year subscription book for the ,,WESTDEUTSCHER BEOBACHTER’’ the daily Nazi newspaper published by the Gauverlag der NSDAP Köln-Aachen (the Gau Publishing Company of the Nazi Party in Cologne - Aachen, Germany).
Gauverlag der NSDAP Adolf Hitler
Under the leadership of Franz Ritter von Epp and Reichsleiter Max Amann and under the auspices of the publishing firm Franz Eher Nachfolger GmbH in Munich, the Nazi Party acquired the large daily newspapers in Germany.

For those who wished to purchase a subscription by the month rather than buying the paper at a newsstand, a red covered subscription book like this one was provided as a record of payment. The paper delivery boy would come around monthly, collect his 2 Reichsmarks (80 US cents) subscription cost, and place a monthly stamp in the space provided in the subscriber’s book.
Nazi due stamp
This Westdeutscher Beobachter newspaper subscription book is in the name of a Mr. Radermacher, a salesman in the town of Godesberg, and was begun on 1 January 1938. There are stamps for every month of the years 1938 through 1943 and ten of the twelve monthly stamps for 1944. With the Americans dug in a few miles west of Cologne and Aachen, and frequent bombardment of the cities, it is probable that the Westdeutscher Beobachter went out of business before they could collect the money for their subscriptions in November 1944.
Interestingly, the book has blank pages for subscription stamps through December 1948! One curiosity in the book is that the stamp the paper boy placed in the box for August 1943 is a June 1943 stamp. There are five pages of information in the book about the history of Nazi newspapers in Germany and a full-page portrait of the Führer, Adolf Hitler, at the front.
